942 personnel awarded with Gallantry and Service Medals for their extraordinary bravery and distinguished contributions in Police, Fire, Home Guard, Civil Defence, and Correctional Services, as announced by the government on January 25.
Gallantry Medals: Recognizing Exceptional Bravery
- A total of 95 Gallantry Medals (GM) were awarded.
- Five personnel, including SSB Head Constable Ravi Sharma, DSP Himayun Muzzammil of J&K Police, and others, were awarded posthumously.
- Distribution of Gallantry Medals:
- 28 personnel from Left Wing Extremism-affected regions.
- 28 personnel from Jammu & Kashmir.
- 3 personnel from Northeast India.
- 36 personnel from other areas.
- These medals honor rare conspicuous acts of gallantry in saving lives, preventing crime, and arresting criminals.
President’s Medals for Distinguished Service
- 101 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM) were awarded to personnel across:
- Police Service (85).
- Fire Service (5).
- Civil Defence and Home Guard Service (7).
- Correctional Service (4).
- PSM honors individuals with an exemplary record in public service.

- 746 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM) were distributed, recognizing dedication and resourcefulness:
- Police Service: 634.
- Fire Service: 37.
- Civil Defence & Home Guard Service: 39.
- Correctional Service: 36.
- MSM highlights valuable service characterized by devotion to duty and commitment to the nation.
Honoring Bravery Across Regions
- Personnel from across India, especially those serving in high-risk zones like Jammu & Kashmir and Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, were acknowledged for their gallantry.
- Firefighters, Home Guards, and Correctional Officers also received recognition for their contributions.
