Ayalaan is a Tamil sci-fi fantasy film starring Sivakarthikeyan, now streaming in Telugu on Aha. Story

The protagonist (Sivakarthikeyan) is a farmer from Araku who lives with his mother. Deeply connected to nature, he believes humans have a responsibility to protect all living beings. When crop loss leaves him jobless, he moves to Hyderabad in search of work. There, he crosses paths with Tyson (Yogi Babu) and his group, takes shelter with them, and begins helping out. During this phase, he meets Tara (Rakul Preet Singh).

In the past, a meteorite crashes in Siberia. Scientist Aryan (Sharad Kelkar) names it “Spark” and plans to use it to extract Nova Gas hidden deep underground. A previous experiment in South Africa leads to several deaths, yet Aryan prepares to conduct the same experiment in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, an alien arrives on Earth from outer space. He infiltrates Aryan’s base, creates chaos, steals Spark, and escapes. By chance, the alien encounters the hero. When Aryan realizes that an alien is involved and Spark has been stolen, events take a dangerous turn. Who ends up in trouble and how these paths collide forms the rest of the story.

Analysis

The central idea—extracting Nova Gas using a meteorite and an alien arriving to prevent Earth’s destruction—forms the backbone of the narrative. The story revolves around the alien positioned between the hero and the villain.

The film operates on three parallel perspectives: the hero’s goodness, the villain’s selfish ambition, and the alien’s mission to help humanity. Among these, the villain’s track appears relatively better structured. However, the romantic track between the hero and heroine, the comedy involving the hero’s friends, and the hero–alien combination scenes fail to make a strong impact.

Although the film frequently shifts between the hero, villain, and alien, it lacks suspense. There is little curiosity about what will happen next or who will face danger. The narrative feels busy but not engaging, which affects the overall impact.

Performances & Technical Aspects

The core idea and character designs are well thought out, but scene construction does not meet expectations. As a result, action, emotion, and comedy fail to connect effectively.

Nirav Shah’s cinematography is decent, A.R. Rahman’s music works reasonably well, and Ruben’s editing is satisfactory. All the main cast members perform their roles competently and do justice to their characters.

Verdict

Ayalaan largely feels like a spectacle built around the hero’s interactions with an alien. While it aims for humor and entertainment, the comedy does not land effectively, and the romance, action, and emotional elements fail to connect. However, the film may still appeal to children as a light fantasy entertainer.
