1 TCS Job Cuts Stir Protests
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), one of the biggest IT giants, is facing strong backlash after news of large-scale job cuts spread across the country. Employee unions have launched protests alleging nearly 30,000 employees may be terminated, while the company has denied the figures.
Protests led by the United IT and ITeS Employees Union (UNITE), supported by CITU, erupted across multiple cities demanding that TCS withdraw its job cut plans immediately. Union leaders claim that experienced professionals with leadership qualities are being targeted and replaced with freshers at salaries 80–85% lower. They warned of escalating the issue internationally if the government does not intervene.
TCS strongly refuted these allegations, calling them “misleading and baseless.” According to an official statement, the restructuring will affect only about 2% of the global workforce, nearly 12,000 employees, as part of aligning with future technologies like AI and cloud. The company assured full compensation and support for affected employees.
Meanwhile, Karnataka’s labor department stepped in following a complaint from the State IT Employees Union. TCS representatives clarified in a meeting that no final decision has been taken on the number of layoffs or locations. Officials reminded the company to respect labor laws and provide fair compensation if reductions occur.
The TCS job cut controversy remains a matter of national debate, highlighting concerns over job security in India’s IT sector.
