Milkha Singh, the iconic sprinter, was cremated with full state honors on Saturday, symbolizing the historic moment in which his pioneering achievements on the track galvanized a newly independent India.
Milkha, 91, was laid to rest in the nearness of his family and many government officials, including sports minister Kiren Rijiju.
‘The Flying Sikh,’ as he was affectionately known, died on Friday night as a result of COVID-19 complications.
