Covid News: 56-year-old covid patient recovers after 62 days on ECMO support A Covid patient in Chennai with fully damaged lungs has recovered entirely after being on ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) support or artificial lungs for more than nine weeks.  He is being billed as India’s longest-surviving ECMO patient who has not had a transplant.  The 56-year-old man was discharged from the Rela Hospital, a multi-speciality quaternary care hospital in Chrompet. Mohamed Muddhija is the first patient in the country to recover without a lung transplant after being linked up to an artificial lung ECMO for more than 60 days.  “It was a fantastic outcome for the patient and his family,” said Dr Mohamed Rela, chairman of the institution.
