In a major blow to India as the opener, Shikhar Dhawan is ruled out of action for three weeks in the World Cup.
In-form opener Shikhar Dhawan was hit on his left thumb during his innings against Australia.
Dhawan didn’t take the field during Australia’s run chase.
KL Rahul is likely to open against New Zealand on 13 June.
The 33-year-old is missing India’s matches against Pakistan, Afghanistan, West Indies, and England, all of that are scheduled to be played in June.
