Telangana Assembly Backs Bharat Ratna for Manmohan Singh
Hyderabad: The Telangana government has passed a resolution in the state assembly recommending the Central Government to confer the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, on former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away recently due to age-related health issues. The opposition party BRS extended its support to the resolution.
The Telangana Assembly held a special session on Monday to pay homage to Dr. Manmohan Singh. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy praised the late leader’s significant contributions to the nation.
He highlighted Dr. Singh’s role in reviving the Indian economy between 1991-96 and commended him as the architect of India’s economic reforms.
CM Reddy lauded Dr. Singh for his exemplary service as Prime Minister for two consecutive terms, Union Finance Minister, and RBI Governor.
He also noted Dr. Singh’s contributions as Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, emphasizing his lifelong dedication to India’s progress.
Leader of the Opposition and former minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) expressed support for the resolution, stating that Dr. Manmohan Singh fully deserves the Bharat Ratna.
He acknowledged the late leader’s immense contribution to the nation and reiterated his party’s backing for the proposal.
The resolution, which seeks to honor Dr. Singh’s legacy, was unanimously supported in the assembly.
