Kanchanjunga Express: Goods Train Collides with Passenger Train in West Bengal: Five Dead, Several Injured

A shocking incident occurred on Monday morning in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal. The Kanchanjunga Passenger Express, traveling from Silchar in Assam to Kolkata, was hit by a goods train.

The collision took place near Rangapani Station, close to New Jalpaiguri. The goods train rammed into the passenger train from behind, causing two coaches of the express train to derail.

Five passengers lost their lives in the accident, and 20-25 people were injured. The scene turned tragic with the cries of the passengers, as reported by Darjeeling district’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Abhishek Rai.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee responded to the train accident on social media. She stated that doctors and disaster management teams had reached the site.

She expressed shock upon learning about the severe train accident in the Darjeeling district, emphasizing the need for further details.

Banerjee confirmed receiving information that the Kanchanjunga Express had been hit by a goods train. She mentioned that district officials, doctors, ambulances, and disaster management teams were dispatched to the scene, and rescue operations were initiated on a war footing.

She also noted that more information regarding the incident is awaited.
