1- Microfluidic Device to Detect Antibiotic Resistance Delivers Results in Just 3 Hours
Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras have developed a groundbreaking, low-cost microfluidic device capable of detecting antibiotic resistance within just three hours. This innovation marks a significant advancement in accelerating diagnostic procedures in the medical field, enabling timely and appropriate treatment for patients, particularly in critical care settings.
Antibiotic resistance (AMR) is currently one of the greatest global health challenges, and the World Health Organization (WHO) has listed it among the top 10 threats to global health. Typically, antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) to determine which antibiotic is effective against a particular infection takes 48 to 72 hours. This delay often forces doctors to administer broad-spectrum antibiotics, which in turn worsens the problem of AMR.
To address this issue, the IIT Madras team developed the device using a technique called electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. According to Professor S. Pushpavanam from the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Madras, the device operates using a microfluidic chip embedded with screen-printed carbon electrodes instead of expensive metals. This approach significantly reduces manufacturing costs and allows the device to be operated even by personnel without specialized training.
Researchers stated that the device is not only fast and affordable but also suitable for deployment in small clinics and rural health centers. They emphasized its potential to greatly benefit patients in intensive care units (ICUs) by facilitating the timely prescription of the appropriate antibiotics, which can be life-saving.
The findings of this research have been published in the prestigious journal Nature Scientific Reports. Professor S. Pushpavanam also revealed that clinical validation is currently underway in collaboration with the IIT Madras Institute Hospital. Upon successful completion of this process, the team plans to commercialize the device through their startup, Kapan Analytics India Private Limited.
2- 185 Doctor Posts to Be Filled in Andhra Pradesh Health Department on Contract Basis
The Government of Andhra Pradesh has announced the recruitment of 185 doctor posts under the Department of Health and Family Welfare, offering a significant opportunity for unemployed medical professionals seeking to establish their careers. The recruitment will be conducted on a contract basis to provide medical services across urban health centers and Ayushman Bharat centers throughout the state.
According to the official notification, out of the total 185 posts, 155 positions are allocated for candidates with MBBS qualifications. The remaining 30 posts are designated for specialist doctors. The specialist vacancies include 14 posts for pediatricians, 3 posts for gynecologists, and 13 posts for the Telemedicine Hub.
Eligible and interested candidates are required to submit their applications between August 25 and September 10. Officials have advised applicants to visit the official website, https://apmsrb.ap.gov.in, for complete details regarding eligibility criteria, educational qualifications, and the application process.
3- Cricket Legend Sachin Tendulkar Confirms Son Arjun’s Engagement
Speculations surrounding the engagement of young cricketer Arjun Tendulkar, son of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, have been laid to rest, with Sachin Tendulkar himself confirming the news. Speaking directly to fans during a social media interaction, the former cricketer acknowledged that the engagement has indeed taken place.
During an “Ask Me Anything” session held today, a fan asked, “Has Arjun really gotten engaged?” Responding to the question, Sachin Tendulkar said, “Yes, he has. We are all very happy about this new phase in his life.”
Reports had earlier suggested that Arjun Tendulkar got engaged to Sania Chandok on August 14 in a private ceremony attended by close friends and family members. Until now, neither family had issued an official statement, but Sachin Tendulkar’s response has served as a formal confirmation.
The bride-to-be, Sania Chandok, is the granddaughter of prominent Mumbai-based industrialist Ravi Ghai. The Ghai family is well-known in the hospitality and food industry, owning reputed businesses such as Intercontinental Hotels and Brooklyn Creamery.
Arjun Tendulkar has been following in his father’s footsteps in the world of cricket. A left-arm fast bowler, he represents Goa in domestic cricket and has also played for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
4- BCCI Terminates Jersey Sponsorship Deal with Dream11 Citing New Online Gaming Bill
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has abruptly terminated its jersey sponsorship agreement with Dream11, bringing an early end to a ₹358-crore, three-year deal. The decision comes in the wake of the newly passed Online Gaming Bill in Parliament, which has prompted the BCCI to reconsider its association with companies in the online gaming sector.
This development has reignited widespread discussion on social media about the fate of brands that sponsor the Indian cricket team’s jersey. Questions are being raised about whether such sponsorships bring fortune or financial strain to companies.
Prominent industrialist and RPG Group Chairman Harsh Goenka weighed in with a satirical post on the subject. “Want to test your brand’s resilience? Forget the stock market. Just become the jersey sponsor for the Indian cricket team,” he tweeted. The remark has gone viral, prompting widespread reactions from netizens who pointed to past examples to support his claim.
The termination of the Dream11 deal has drawn attention back to previous sponsors of the Indian cricket team—Sahara, Star, Oppo, and Byju’s—all of whom reportedly encountered significant financial or legal challenges following their sponsorship tenures. Notably, ed-tech firm Byju’s faced a severe downturn after sponsoring Team India.
The trend has triggered debate across social media about whether becoming the jersey sponsor of the Indian cricket team is a prestigious opportunity or a high-risk gamble for brands.

6-Nara Rohit Says He Can Respond Decisively If He Enters Politics
Actor Nara Rohit has stated that if he were to enter politics, he would be able to respond decisively, citing Pawan Kalyan as an example of someone who successfully transitioned from films to politics. He made these remarks during a media interaction in Hyderabad as part of promotions for his upcoming film Sundarakanda, which is set to release on August 27, coinciding with the Vinayaka Chavithi festival.
When asked by a media representative whether his introverted nature would hinder his potential in politics, given the direct criticism often encountered in the field, Nara Rohit responded, “Everyone knows the stature of my uncle in politics. I come from that family. Being an introvert does not mean one cannot succeed in politics.”
Referring to Pawan Kalyan, Nara Rohit stated, “Pawan Kalyan garu was also introverted during his time in cinema. But once he entered politics, he forged his own path with a unique style. If I enter politics, I too will be able to respond with the same firmness.”
These comments have sparked interest and speculation, especially given his family background and public profile.
Speaking about Sundarakanda, the actor shared that he stars alongside Sridevi Vijaykumar and Vrutti Vaghani in a film built around an engaging storyline. The production team expressed confidence in the film’s narrative appeal. Nara Rohit is actively participating in promotional activities, touring extensively across both Telugu-speaking states.
7-Statewide Distribution of Smart Ration Cards Begins in Andhra Pradesh
The Government of Andhra Pradesh has officially launched the distribution of newly introduced smart ration cards across the state, marking the start of a large-scale public welfare initiative. Civil Supplies Minister Nandendla Manohar personally distributed the cards to beneficiaries by visiting households in Vijayawada and Penamaluru on Monday, initiating the program in a festive atmosphere.
According to Minister Nandendla Manohar, the state aims to complete distribution to all 4.42 crore beneficiaries by September 15. In the NTR district alone, 5.90 lakh people will receive the cards, while Krishna district will see distribution to 5.17 lakh beneficiaries.
Highlighting the benefits of the smart cards, the Minister stated that beneficiaries will now be able to access ration supplies from any fair price shop in the state, regardless of their registered location. Each smart card features a QR code that, when scanned, sends real-time data on where and when ration items were collected, thereby ensuring transparency in the public distribution system.
The government is supplying items such as toor dal, palm oil, and wheat through 29,000 fair price shops across the state, and has upgraded point-of-sale (POS) machines to support the new system. For the convenience of tribal and remote-area populations, the state is considering the establishment of sub-ration depots, and discussions with the Chief Minister are currently underway on this matter.
Citizens wishing to update or correct names on their ration cards can apply through their local village or ward secretariats. For any queries, a toll-free number—1967—has been made available to assist the public.
The launch event was attended by MLAs Gadde Ramamohan and Bode Prasad, Civil Supplies Commissioner Saurabh Gaur, local public representatives, and coalition leaders.
8- Delhi High Court Quashes CIC Order on PM Modi’s Degree Details
The Delhi High Court on Monday delivered a significant judgment regarding the controversy surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational qualifications. The court set aside the 2016 directive issued by the Central Information Commission (CIC) that had ordered Delhi University to disclose details of Prime Minister Modi’s Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. The verdict was pronounced by Justice Sachin Datta.
The ruling came in response to a petition filed by Delhi University challenging the CIC’s order. The university argued that it has a legal obligation to maintain the confidentiality of student records and cannot release such information solely based on public curiosity.
The CIC’s 2016 order had been based on a Right to Information (RTI) request submitted by an individual named Neeraj, who sought access to records of students who graduated with a BA degree in 1978. Delhi High Court had stayed the CIC’s directive in 2017, and after concluding the hearings, it has now delivered a final verdict in favour of the university.
During the proceedings, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing Delhi University, contended that the institution holds student records in trust and is bound to keep them confidential. He stated that information requested under the RTI Act cannot be disclosed simply out of curiosity unless there is a broader public interest. He also confirmed that records indicating that Prime Minister Modi obtained a BA degree in 1978 are available with the university and can be shown to the court if required.
On the other hand, legal counsel for the RTI applicant argued that there was legitimate public interest in disclosing the Prime Minister’s educational details. However, the court rejected this argument and upheld Delhi University’s position, thereby quashing the CIC’s previous order.
With this judgment, the longstanding legal dispute over Prime Minister Modi’s degree records appears to have been conclusively resolved.
9- Self-Employment for Women Through MEPMA-Rapido Partnership Benefits 1,003 Across Nine Cities
The self-employment initiative launched by the Andhra Pradesh government in collaboration with MEPMA and Rapido is yielding promising results, especially in advancing women’s empowerment. Human Resources, IT, and Education Minister Nara Lokesh stated that the initiative marks just the beginning of a broader movement towards economic independence for women, adding that the Telugu Desam Party has always supported women across various sectors. He expressed satisfaction that over 1,000 women have already benefited from the scheme and assured its further expansion.
The program, inspired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision of “One Family – One Entrepreneur,” was launched on March 8 this year. It aims to create income-generating opportunities for women by facilitating access to vehicles through bank loans arranged via MEPMA and DWCRA groups. Under the first phase, electric scooters and autos were distributed to 1,003 families across nine cities, including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Nellore, and Guntur.
Rapido has extended significant support by offering newly onboarded women drivers a three to four-month waiver on platform fees and contributing ₹1,000 per month towards their EMIs for the first year. The government is also providing subsidies of up to ₹12,300 for scooters and ₹36,000 for autos, reducing the financial burden on women participants.
In just three months—May, June, and July—women under this scheme completed 45,000 rides through Rapido and collectively earned approximately ₹35 lakh. In Vijayawada, women such as Glory Manju, Madhavi, and Bhavani are now earning between ₹10,000 and ₹16,000 per month. They expressed that working part-time after completing household responsibilities has brought them both financial independence and personal satisfaction.
Encouraged by the early success, the government plans to expand the scheme to benefit an additional 4,800 women in the coming year.

While serving as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan is simultaneously working to complete his film commitments. The poster, set in the glow of lamps, captures an intimate and radiant moment between the lead pair. However, what has truly caught the attention of fans and social media users is a small but striking detail— a Japanese tattoo on Pawan Kalyan’s right arm.
The tattoo, composed of three Japanese characters, has sparked widespread speculation online. According to discussions on social media, each character holds a powerful meaning: the first represents “Promise,” the second stands for “Strength,” and the third signifies “Fire.” Fans believe that these three words reflect the essence of Pawan Kalyan’s character and his mission in the film.

With the film already generating high expectations through its first glimpse and debut song, the intriguing tattoo has added a new layer of excitement among followers. OG continues to build momentum as one of the most anticipated Telugu releases.
