Chaitanya Rao stars in the recently released film “Parijatha Parvam,” which hit theaters on April 19th and is now streaming on Aha.
Featuring Malavika Sateeshan as the leading lady, the film includes performances by Sunil, Sharddha Das, Srikanth Ayyamgar, Surekha Vani, and Viva Harsha. This comedy entertainer’s effectiveness is worth examining.
Chandu (Chaitanya Rao) aspires to be a film director and wishes to introduce his friend Harsha (Viva Harsha) as the hero. Despite Harsha’s suggestion to cast another actor, Chandu persists, seeking producers to fund his script.
The duo shares a rented room, where the landlord’s daughter (Malavika Sateeshan) falls in love with Chandu. Though her father consents to their marriage, Chandu insists on completing his film first. She decides to support him financially, easing their rent issues.
Meanwhile, Srinu (Sunil) dreams of becoming an actor, frequenting film offices and studios. He is advised that meeting industry people at “Omkar Bar” could lead to opportunities.
Consequently, Srinu becomes a waiter at the bar, which is covertly run by Shankar, who manages a larger illegal operation. Parijatham (Sharddha Das) performs dances at the bar to sustain herself, and she eventually forms a romantic relationship with Srinu.
This relationship leads to a conflict where Srinu kills Shankar and becomes a gangster.
Chandu plans to finance his film by kidnapping the wife of producer Shetty (Srikanth Ayyamgar) for ransom. Simultaneously, Srinu’s gang targets the same woman for money. The ensuing events and their outcomes form the rest of the story.
The title “Parijatha Parvam” comes from the character Parijatham (Sharddha Das). The narrative revolves around three main elements:
Chandu’s dream of making a film with Harsha, the kidnapping scheme for funding, and Srinu’s rivalry. All these elements are tied with comedy but lack novelty and suspense.
The film‘s storytelling is straightforward and lacks twists or engaging screenwriting. It feels more like watching a stage drama than a cinematic experience, likely due to the director’s inexperience.
The music, provided by Ree, is a significant drawback, with irrelevant scores that do not match the scenes. The cinematography by Balasaraswathi and editing by Shashank Upputuri are average.
The performances do not stand out, mainly due to the weak script and direction. Every aspect of the film, from the plot to the comedy, comes off as subpar and unappealing.
Overall, “Parijatha Parvam” fails to engage or entertain, leaving viewers questioning the involvement of talented actors like Sunil and Chaitanya Rao in such lackluster content.
