Sophie Morgan, 36, says she celebrates the date she was paralysed in a car accident
Sophie Morgan, a campaigner and Television personality, was wounded in a vehicle accident when she was 18 years old.
She considers the date she was paralysed in a car accident at the age of 18 to be her “second birthday,” and she celebrates it every year.
The presenter, 36, was left wheelchair-bound after sustaining a T6 spinal cord injury in 2003, resulting in paralysis from the chest down, and she commemorates the anniversary of her accident every year.
Since then, the London-based activist has worked on a number of noteworthy initiatives, including hosting Channel 4’s Television coverage of the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo this year.
‘I kind of think see myself as having two birthdays, because when I was injured, I nearly set it as a birthday,’ she explained.
‘Some persons who have had a spinal injury describe themselves as having two ages. So I was zero when I was first injured, and now I’m 18, since I’ve been paralysed for 18 years.
Sophie has previously stated that her impairment has not ‘ruined her life,’ and that although many people are ‘fearful of change,’ she feels her disability has’made her life.’
