Key matches during the T20 World Cup 2024 league stage were held at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York, including the India-Pakistan match.
However, all matches at this venue recorded low scores.
The average first-innings score across the 8 matches held in New York was 107.6 runs. This led to widespread criticism from cricket experts and fans alike.
Referees Ranjan Madugalle, David Boon, Jeff Crowe, and Richie Richardson, who officiated these matches, faced significant backlash due to the slow pitch and unpredictable ball bounce.
Approximately 50 days after the tournament concluded, the ICC has provided ratings for the pitches used at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium.
Out of the 8 matches played at this stadium, the ICC rated the pitches used for 6 matches as “satisfactory.”
The pitches for two matches were rated “below average.”
These two matches were between India and Ireland and Sri Lanka and South Africa, according to the ICC.
The pitch ratings were published on the ICC’s official website on Tuesday.
Only One Pitch Rated “Very Good”
Overall, out of the 52 matches played in the T20 World Cup, only 3 pitches were given “below average” ratings.
The third pitch with a “below average” rating was for the semi-final match between Afghanistan and South Africa in Trinidad, where Afghanistan was bowled out for just 56 runs.
The pitch used for the Super-8 stage match between Afghanistan and India in Barbados received a “satisfactory” rating.
The pitch for the final match was the only one to receive a “very good” rating from the ICC.
The T20 World Cup 2024 tournament ran from June 1 to June 29.
