Tokyo Olympics silver medal winner Mirabai Chana returns to India amid rousing welcome-India in Olympics Mirabai Chanu, an Olympic silver medalist, has returned to the country after her success in Tokyo 2020.  Chanu’s outstanding performance in the women’s 49kg category event at the Tokyo Olympics broke India’s 21-year wait for a Summer Games weightlifting medal.  Employees at Indira Gandhi International Airport welcomed her enthusiastically, chanting Bharat Mata ki Jai and Vande Mataram for the 26-year-old athlete.  She also had to take the required covid-19 exam. Tokyo Olympics 2020: India’s Mirabai Chanu wins silver medal in Weightlifting-India in olympics Mirabai Chanu earned a silver medal in 49 kg weightlifting, giving India its first medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.  On Day 1 of the Tokyo Olympics 2020, she became the first Indian weightlifter to win a silver medal when she won the women’s 49kg category. This is also India’s first appearance at the Tokyo Olympics.  Chanu is India’s second Olympic weightlifting medalist, after Karnam Malleswari.  Malleswari did earn a bronze medal, but Chanu made India, particularly women, proud by winning silver.
