The inaugural WTC Series is won by New Zealand, who defeated India In the WTC final match, the New Zealand team outplayed the Virat men on all fronts. New Zealand batted first, setting a target of 139. When New Zealand’s score reached 44, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had taken two wickets. Skipper Kane, who fell short of the half-century mark in the first innings, hit 52 runs in the second. Ross Taylor pitched a valuable 47-pitch inning. In a match against one of the finest teams in the world, Indian batsmen failed to score large. India’s second innings began with an overnight score of 64/2. India was held to 170 points by New Zealand’s bowling attack. Kyle Jamieson of New Zealand led the pace attack with seven wickets, while Tim Southee and Trent Boult also contributed to the dismissal of Indian players. India set an unfavourable record by losing its sixth ICC elimination match. The pattern began with the ICC World T20 final in 2014, and was pursued by the 2015 50-over World Cup, the ICC Semi-Final in 2016, the Champions Trophy the following year, and the semifinal in the 2019 World Cup.  Since taking over the command from former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India has lost three ICC knockout matches: the 2017 Champions Trophy, the 2019 semifinal of the 50-over World Cup, and the recent World Twenty20 Championship.
