Latest Taliban Order Bars Windows Allowing Afghan Women’s Visibility
Since taking control of Afghanistan, the Taliban has focused on suppressing women and denying them basic rights. Their latest orders further demonstrate this oppression. Women, already confined to their homes and restricted from stepping outside without male accompaniment, have been denied access to education, gyms, and parks. Now, the Taliban has issued a new directive that has sparked widespread discussion.
The Taliban has instructed that windows in newly constructed houses must not allow women to be visible from outside. For existing houses, windows must be sealed to comply with this rule.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated on social media platform X that women visible from kitchens, courtyards, or while fetching water from wells could lead to “undesirable consequences.” To prevent this, walls must be constructed to block their visibility.
Municipal authorities have been tasked with inspecting new constructions to ensure compliance with these orders, underscoring the Taliban’s ongoing efforts to control every aspect of women’s lives.
