The Launch of APAAR Card: One Nation, One Student ID

The central government has implemented a system to issue a single ID to all students in the country, similar to the ‘Aadhaar Card’, which serves as a single identity for all citizens of India. This initiative, called the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR Card), has been launched as part of the National Education Policy 2020. It is conceptualized as a ‘one nation, one student ID card.’ With this system, all student-related details, such as complete academic data including degrees, awards, scholarships, and credits, will be digitized. This highly beneficial system for students is known as Edu Locker.

Benefits for Students

The APAAR Card is a digital ID issued to students in private and government schools and colleges across the country. The digitization of academic details allows students to view and download their information online as needed. It facilitates the tracking of student records, making transfers between schools simpler. From pre-primary to postgraduate levels, all schools and colleges will issue this card.
