Vizianagaram’s Bhogapuram International Airport to Get 500 More Acres for Development
The Andhra Pradesh government has formed a ministerial committee to review the proposal of allocating an additional 500 acres for the development of Bhogapuram International Airport in Vizianagaram district.
Initially, 2,703.26 acres were proposed in the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the construction of the airport. However, during the previous government’s tenure under Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, the allocated area was reduced by 500 acres to 2,203.26 acres.
Recently, GMR, the company responsible for building the Bhogapuram airport, which operates under Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited (GVIAL), submitted a request to the state government for the additional 500 acres. The company proposed that with this additional land, they could develop a world-class aviation hub along with a township-like infrastructure near the airport.
Responding to the request, the government issued orders on Friday, forming a three-member ministerial committee. The committee will be led by the Finance Minister, with the Ministers of Infrastructure and Industries as members. The committee is tasked with conducting a detailed study on the matter and submitting a report to the government.
