Cyclone Dana Prompts Heavy Rain Forecast for Northern Andhra Pradesh, Over 200 Trains Canceled

Cyclone Dana: Severe Storm to Make Landfall Between Odisha and West Bengal Tonight

The cyclone ‘Dana’, which is causing concern in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and West Bengal, is expected to intensify into a severe cyclone today.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, it is likely to make landfall between Bitharkanika and Dhamra (Odisha), near Puri in Odisha and Sagar Island in West Bengal, either late tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Cyclone Details
When the cyclone makes landfall, wind speeds could reach up to 120 kilometers per hour, and it is projected to remain a severe cyclone for about 36 hours.

This is expected to result in heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha and West Bengal, with some areas experiencing rainfall exceeding 21 centimeters.

Rainfall in Andhra Pradesh
Due to the cyclone‘s impact, Andhra Pradesh is expected to see light to moderate rainfall over the next three days.

Heavy rainfall is predicted for the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam tomorrow.

Port Alerts
A second-level danger warning has been issued for several ports in Andhra Pradesh, including Krishnapatnam, Nizampatnam, Machilipatnam, Kakinada, Gangavaram, Visakhapatnam, and Kalingapatnam.

Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea due to the risk of high waves and winds reaching speeds of up to 110 kilometers per hour.

Train Cancellations
In light of the cyclone, over 200 trains have been canceled since last night. In the Eastern Sealdah division,

190 trains were canceled between 8 PM yesterday and 10 AM today.

Additionally, 14 trains under the South Central Railway division were also canceled.
