West Indies cricket legend Dwayne Bravo, who retired from international cricket in 2021, has now decided to retire from professional cricket as well.
Bravo announced his decision on Instagram on Saturday, stating that he would retire after the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024.
As one of the greatest death-over bowlers of all time, Bravo will no longer be seen in any cricket leagues after this tournament.
Bravo mentioned that CPL 2024 would be his “final professional tournament,” and he looks forward to playing in front of the Caribbean people one last time.
The 40-year-old had previously retired from international cricket in 2021, shortly after West Indies won two T20 World Cup titles in 2012 and 2016.
“I had a great cricket journey. I am eagerly looking forward to playing my last professional tournament in front of my Caribbean people. My journey with the Trinbago Knight Riders team will come to an end,” he emotionally expressed.
Bravo has an impressive record in T20 cricket history. He has played a total of 578 T20 matches, including international matches and various leagues, and has taken 630 wickets.
He holds the top position in bowling statistics in T20 cricket history. Since making his debut in 2006, Bravo has excelled as an all-rounder, not only taking a large number of wickets but also scoring 6,970 runs in T20 cricket.
In CPL 2024, Bravo is representing the Trinbago Knight Riders team. So far, he has played 94 matches for the team and taken 128 wickets, making him the highest wicket-taker in CPL history.
Bravo has also made his mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he played 58 matches and took 183 wickets, making him the third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament’s history.
The all-rounder has represented the Chennai Super Kings, a team that won the IPL championship five times.
