Ahmedabad: India beat West Indies by 5 wickets in the first ODI of the 3-match series at the Kensington Oval on Thursday.

Ishan Kishan starred with the bat for India as he scored 52 off 46 balls to help his team chase down a small target of 115 runs. The Indian spinners dominated the West Indies innings, with Kuldeep Yadav picking up 4 wickets for just 6 runs and Ravindra Jadeja taking 3 wickets. West Indies were bowled out for a paltry 114 in just 23 overs.

Chasing 115, India got off to a quick start as Ishan Kishan smashed a four off the first ball he faced. However, Shubman Gill fell for 4 runs as he edged one to the slips. Suryakumar Yadav came in at number 3 and hit some lovely shots, but he too fell for 13 after being trapped lbw by spinner Gudakesh Motie.

Ishan Kishan continued his aggressive innings and brought up his half-century in 40 balls.

He took on both the spinners and pacers, hitting 6 fours and 1 six before falling for 52.

Despite losing wickets, the required run rate was low and captain Rohit Sharma came out at number 7 to finish off the chase and seal a comfortable 5-wicket win for India with 160 balls to spare.

Motie was the pick of the West Indies bowlers with figures of 2/26 in 7 overs.
