IPL 2025: Rohit Sharma’s Record Run Lights Up Mumbai’s Victory
Mumbai, April 20: Rohit Sharma hit his first half-century of the IPL 2025 season in his eighth match, while Suryakumar Yadav played a typically aggressive knock as Mumbai Indians secured a dominant nine-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in the second “El Clasico” of the season at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. This was Mumbai’s first win over CSK in their last five encounters.
Chasing a target of 177, Mumbai openers made it look easy. Rohit scored an unbeaten 76 from 45 balls, and Suryakumar smashed 68 off just 30 balls. Mumbai reached 177/1 in just 15.4 overs, with 26 balls to spare. Their 114-run stand for the second wicket came in only 54 balls, guiding MI to their fourth win of the season. With this victory, Mumbai moved to sixth on the points table with 8 points, while CSK remained at the bottom with only 4 points from 8 matches.
Earlier, Chennai Super Kings posted 176/5 after being asked to bat first. Shivam Dube played a vital knock of 50 runs off 32 balls, and Ravindra Jadeja added an unbeaten 53 from 35 deliveries. The duo added 79 runs for the fourth wicket in 50 balls, helping CSK set a competitive total.
One of the highlights of the match was 17-year-old debutant Ayush Mhatre, who played an impressive innings of 32 from 15 balls. Coming in after the early dismissal of Rachin Ravindra, Mhatre entertained the crowd with his aggressive strokeplay, including two sixes and a four in a single over.
Despite CSK’s promising total, Mumbai chased it down with ease. Rohit Sharma silenced his critics with a commanding performance, bringing up his fifty in 33 balls and hitting 4 boundaries and 6 sixes. Suryakumar Yadav continued his strong form, reaching his half-century in just 26 balls with shots all around the park.
Among Mumbai’s bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah was the standout performer, taking 2 wickets for 25 runs in his four overs, including the crucial scalps of Dube and MS Dhoni. Mitchell Santner also bowled economically, conceding only 14 runs in three overs and picking up a wicket.
