Kapil Dev Questions Kohli and Rohit’s Inclusion in the Team
Cricket legend Kapil Dev has made sensational remarks about senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, emphasizing that consistent improvement is crucial to remain in the Indian cricket team. He stated that relying solely on past records cannot ensure a long-term place in the playing XI. Referring to the recent dips in form of Kohli and Rohit, Kapil pointed out that while they have achieved remarkable milestones in their careers, it would be unjustified to keep giving them chances if they fail repeatedly.
Kapil Dev advised both players to focus on maintaining their form and showcasing quality performances to retain their spots in the team. Highlighting the competitive nature of modern cricket, he insisted that only players in good form should be selected in the final XI. He criticized the practice of including senior players based on their past achievements, calling it unfair when younger players are often dropped after a single underwhelming performance.
Addressing the selection of Kohli and Rohit for the Champions Trophy squad, Kapil suggested that in-form young players could have been given a chance instead of an out-of-form Kohli. He remarked that Kohli must perform to his expected standards to ensure his inclusion benefits both himself and the team.
Kapil concluded by urging selectors to prioritize current form over reputation, stating that such a policy would create a more merit-based environment in the Indian cricket team.
