Indian-origin US President Joseph Biden has proposed Ajay Banga as the new World Bank president. David Malpass, who had initially intended to retire in April of next year but decided to step down early, will be replaced by Banga, a former CEO of Mastercard.
The position of Malpass was filled by previous US President Donald Trump. Banga’s pick is thought to have been influenced by his vast expertise in addressing international issues, including climate change.
The World Bank is a global financial organisation that collaborates with 189 nations to fight poverty. Banga has more than 30 years of business experience and is presently Vice Chairman of General Atlantic.
