No problem in waking up late for my daughter: Ajinkya Rahane on fatherhood

Almost every cricket lover must be familiar with India Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and his playing style on the field but on the final episode of India Today Inspiration, Rahne opened up about his private life and shared his experience of fatherhood.

Rahane married his childhood friend Radhika in 2014. The two had met first in school and remained friends for quite some time before their parents met and arranged their marriage.

Rahane was blessed with a baby girl last year in October. However, he was on a national duty playing for India in the first Test against South Africa when his wife Radhika gave birth to their first child.

“Really enjoying my fatherhood. I think it is a blessing. I still remember when I got to know when we in Vizag playing South Africa in 1st Test and after that Test match I straight went to Mumbai to see my daughter,” Rahane said on the recent episode of India Today Inspiration.

“After every Test match, I am going home and spending time with my daughter. It is a completely different feeling. I have no problem waking up late at night taking care of my daughter. Even I tell Radhika that when I am home with the daughter she can sleep without any worries. I think it is really great fun.”

Talking about his wife, Rahane said that he was lucky to have an ‘understanding’ person like Radhika in his life. Meanwhile, the 31-year-old also rued about not getting to spend much time with his family.

“I am really lucky to have Radhika in my life. She does not like limelight so you won’t be seeing her much. It looks very easy on the outside but it very hard for your partner as you do not get to spend much time together. So when we are on tour we go out for dinner even if I am tired. She is very understanding. She knows what is important to me. What my passion is. It is all about taking care of them. When I come after a match or practice, I think about them and take care of them.”

Rahane also gave a sense of his normal day at home and revealed that is taking cooking lessons from his wife these days.

“I love listening to music. I am learning to cook with my wife. It is a work in progress. I am very foodie so I keep trying different cuisines,” Rahane said.

In a quick question-answer round with India Today consulting editor Boria Majumdar, Rahane conceded that the one dream he still has a cricketer is to win the World Cup for the country.

Here is how Ajinkya answered in the rapid-fire round.

One gift you would like to buy for Radhika: I think my time
