End of an Era: Beloved Actress Sulochana Latkar Passes Away at 94

Sulochana Latkar, a well-known actress known for her outstanding work in films like “Gora Aur Kala,” “Sampoorna Ramayana,” and “Jeevacha Sakha,” passed away today. At 6:30 PM on Sunday, the 94-year-old actress passed away at Sushrusha Hospital in Dadar, Mumbai. Latkar had been suffering age-related illnesses like respiratory issues.

Her health reportedly deteriorated on Saturday, June 3, and she was put on a ventilator as a result. Latkar’s health had already gotten worse in March, leading to a three-week hospital stay from which she eventually recovered.

Sulochana Latkar made her acting debut in 1946. She was born on July 30, 1928, in Khadaklat, Karnataka. Her distinguished career covered both Hindi and Marathi cinema, and she was well-known for her significant contributions to Marathi films. She made appearances in more than 250 Marathi films, including, among others, “Sasurvas” and “Vahini Chiya Bangdya.”

Beginning with her role in ‘Dil Dekhe Dekho’ in 1959 and continuing in numerous films until 1995, Latkar gained notoriety in Hindi cinema for her portrayal of maternal characters. ‘Kati Patang’, ‘Mere Jeevan Sathi’, and many other memorable Hindi films are just a few examples.

Sulochana Latkar received the prestigious Padma Shri Award in 1999 in recognition of her significant contributions to the film industry. In addition, she earned the ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’ award and the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.
