Tamil Nadu CM Felicitates Caretaker Couple from Oscar-winning Documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers‘”
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin felicitated caretaker couple Bomman and Bellie, who featured in the Oscar-winning short documentary film “The Elephant Whisperers,” directed by Kartiki Gonsalves.
Stalin also announced a grant of Rs 1 lakh to each of the 91 elephant caretakers in the two camps and Rs 9.1 crore for Mahout housing construction.
An additional Rs 5 crore was announced for developing an elephant camp in Anamalai Tiger Reserve.
The documentary film portrays the affection and compassion of the caretakers towards elephant calves.
The film is an Indo-American production and won an Oscar for directorial debut of Kartiki Gonsalves.
