UPSC Civil Services 2024 Notification: Know the Vacancies and Eligibility Among 10 Key Highlights

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the notification for the Civil Services Examination (Prelims) 2024. This year, 1056 vacancies have been announced. Applications are now open.

The UPSC has made the Civil Services Exam (Prelims) 2024 notification available. Interested candidates can check the notification on the official UPSC website, upsc.gov.in, and start the online application process at upsconline.nic.in. Aspiring candidates for various civil services including IAS, IPS, IRS, IFS, etc., can apply until March 5, 2024. The UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam 2024 is scheduled for May 26, 2024. Applicants can make amendments to their application forms between March 6 and March 12. This year, UPSC has continued its policy of “first apply, first allot” for the exam center choices, which means the earlier you apply, the higher your chances of getting the exam center city of your preference.

Through this examination, officers will be selected for various All India Services including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), etc. It is mandatory for candidates wishing to appear for the Indian Forest Service main examination to pass the UPSC Civil Services Prelims as both exams share a common prelims test.

Eligibility for Civil Services Posts: Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university/institute in any subject. Students appearing in the final exam of the bachelor’s degree course can also apply but will need to provide proof of having passed the degree at the time of filling the form for the Civil Services (Main Exam).

Eligibility for Indian Forest Service Examination: A Bachelor’s degree with one of the subjects among Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, and Zoology, or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/Forestry or Engineering from a recognized institution/university is required.

UPSC Civil Services 2024 Notification: Age Limit: The minimum age is 21 years, and the maximum age limit is 32 years as of August 1, 2024. This means the candidate must have been born not before August 2, 1992, and not after August 1, 2003.

Number of Attempts: General category candidates get a total of 6 attempts until the age of 32. OBC candidates get 9 attempts until the age of 35, and SC/ST candidates get unlimited attempts till the age of 37.

Selection Process: All applicants must first take the Prelims Exam. Those who pass the Prelims are eligible to sit for the Mains Exam, and those who pass the Mains will reach the Interview (Personality Test) stage. The final merit list is based on the performance in the Mains Exam and Interview. The Mains Exam is for 1750 marks, and the Interview is for 275 marks.

Application Fee: ₹100. The fee can be paid in cash at any SBI branch, or by net banking, or by using a MasterCard/Debit Card. SC, ST, physically disabled, and female candidates are exempt from the fee.

Examination Cities: The UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam will be conducted in 80 cities.

Advantage of Early Application: UPSC has applied a “first apply, first allot” policy for exam center allocation, meaning early applicants have a better chance of getting their preferred exam center city.

No Option to Withdraw Application: Once applied, candidates cannot withdraw their application form.

Selection for Services: Through UPSC Civil Services, selections are made for Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Services (IPS), Indian Foreign Services (IFS), including Indian Railway Accounts Service, Indian Postal Services, Indian Trade Services, and other services.
