Summary:
Shankar, who created a sensation with the original ‘Bharateeyudu’ starring Kamal Haasan, has directed the sequel, ‘Bharateeyudu 2’.

Produced by Lyca Productions with music by Anirudh, the movie was released nationwide today. Let’s see how it fares with the audience.

Plot:
Chitra Aravindan (Siddharth) is a responsible citizen in Chennai. His friends Hari, Thambesh, and Aarti are also socially conscious and react to issues like corruption, pollution, bribery, and abuse of power with frustration.

They believe that the return of Bharateeyudu (Indian) could solve these problems.

Chitra and his friends initiate a social media campaign to bring Bharateeyudu back to India. Responding from abroad, Bharateeyudu announces his return, striking fear in the hearts of the corrupt.

He calls for the removal of societal evils and insists on punishing even family members if they are found guilty of corruption.

This leads Chitra and his friends to monitor their own families for any wrongdoing, causing unrest and conflicts within families.

Review:
Shankar’s storytelling takes over half an hour to set the stage for Bharateeyudu’s return, with the interval marking his declaration of action.

The numerous problems presented to the hero create a cluttered narrative. The film would have benefited from focusing on a few key issues, as seen in the original.

The script tries to address too many societal issues, which burdens both the hero and the audience. The resolution scenes lack impact.

The iconic status of Bharateeyudu‘s character is undermined by scenes where he is attacked by the public.

Key scenes, like the episodes involving mining magnates and corrupt officials, feel prolonged. The iconic look of Bharateeyudu does not have the same effect as before.

Supporting characters like Gulshan Grover and S. J. Suryah seem unnecessary, while Bobby Simha’s role feels underdeveloped.

The film‘s music fails to leave a lasting impression, unlike the original.

Production Values:
Lyca Productions ensures high production values, with Ravi Varman’s cinematography standing out.

Anirudh’s background score is decent but not exceptional, and the editing by Sreekar Prasad could have been tighter, with several scenes feeling dragged out.

Emotional Connection:
The emotional depth and family dynamics that made the original film compelling are missing here.

The hero’s moral dilemmas and the connection to the audience are less effective in this sequel.

Pros:

Grand scale
Kamal Haasan’s performance
Cons:

Overabundance of issues
Unnecessary and underdeveloped characters
Lackluster music and prolonged scenes
