1983 World Cup: Former India cricketer Yashpal Sharma dies Yashpal Sharma, one of 1983’s heroes, dies.  Sharma played 37 Tests, scoring 1606 runs, and 42 One-Day Internationals, scoring 883 runs.  He was 66 years old, and he was survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son. Yashpal made his Test debut against England at Lord’s in 1979, while his first One-Day International (ODI) match was against Pakistan at Sialkot in 1978.
